THE BIGBANG MEMBER HELD HIS FIRST SOLO CONCERT IN SINGAPORE LAST NIGHT

What sorcery is this? Why are BIGBANG members' concerts (be it solo, group or YG family tours) so electrifying? (Hmm... I don't think Taeyang being "electrifying" necessarily has to do with his being a BB member)

Taeyang, who had waited four long years (true, true) for his latest album RISE and his first solo world tour, took the stage at Singapore Expo last night. While the turnout might be smaller than that of a BIGBANG concert, the singer did his best to work the crowd.

Despite arriving from Malaysia (by bus because he “doesn't like taking flights these days”) (I think I know what he's going through) yesterday morning, the 26-year-old did not let fatigue get the better of him as he successfully pulled off high-energy performances throughout the two-hour show (he's a pro through and through).

“I've waited for this moment [for a long time]. While I was recording, when I walked down the street; when I’m eating rice, taking a shower and doing my business in the bathroom (he sure loves bathroom analogies), I dreamed about this day. My album finally came out last year and now, I am here with you,” Taeyang said in fluent English.

Characteristically candid and glib-tongued, Taeyang offered everything that the crown-lightstick bearing VIP (BIGBANG fans) were looking for – striptease (I don't particularly care for the word choice), sexy vocals, lots of groovy dance moves and his own brand of humour (haha I guess his unique sense of humor is now known internationally).

1) When he strips

It is NOT a Taeyang show if he doesn't show off that chiseled body of his.

We were getting impatient when the swagger remained fully clothed seven songs into his concert. Just as the fans were mesmerised by his classic hit “Wedding Dress” (my favorite!!!), Taeyang pulled his sleeveless shirt apart and allowed us an unobstructed view of his abs when he continued performing “This Ain’t It” in his topless uniform.

But of course, the dance machine wasn't here just to exhibit his muscles. Taeyang changed into several outfits before he seductively removed his top on stage again during the encore performance of “Body”. How apt.

2) When he asked a fan to be his girlfriend

During the song “I Need a Girl”, Taeyang invited a female fan on stage where he serenaded her with his silky voice and nifty dance moves.

As if back-hugging and wrapping the lucky girl in his arms (while dancing, mind you) wasn't enough to incite screams that pierced through the roof, the singer even asked her to be his girlfriend for the night. Ermahgerd.

3) When he gave away personal memorabilia in a lucky draw

The concert nearly turned into a fan-meeting when Taeyang conducted a lucky draw to give away his personal items. “I have a special gift for you guys and I wonder what it is,” he teased.

When someone in the mosh pit shouted “Panty!” (gasp), the jovial chap rejected the idea and jokingly suggested his guitarist to give out his underwear instead.

In the end, two blessed fans got to go home with a pair of autographed sneakers and a cap which Taeyang wore on stage respectively. For the rest of us, we were happy with the best gift that he could offer – his music (indeed!!!).

4) When his homie G-Dragon made a “special appearance”

With all due respect to Taeyang, we were wondering if any BIGBANG member would make a surprise guest appearance at the concert last night.

Although that did not happen, the group’s leader G-Dragon showed up on the big screens during the song “Stay With Me”, a collaboration track between the two BFFs. It was certainly a nice touch for the fans who ship this pair.

5) When he rocked BIGBANG songs on his own

As promised during his interview with xinmsn in Hong Kong last December, Taeyang treated local VIP to the “live” renditions of all the tracks in RISE. Arguably the most covered song in 2014 (even Michael Bublé joined the bandwagon recently), the massively popular “Eyes, Nose, Lips” was performed twice last night.

After executing crowd-favourite “Good Boy” on his own, Taeyang gingerly asked if we loved this GD-less version of the song. Well firstly, there is nothing to dislike about the highly addictive track. Secondly, Taeyang's charismatic stage presence more than made up for his missing partner.

During the encore segment, the singer brought the show to a new high as he rocked BIGBANG hits ”Bad Boy” and “Fantastic Baby” on his own. With the quintet’s impending comeback and their brand new world tour, we hold Taeyang to his words when he promised to return to Singapore “very soon”.

태양이 공연장을 뜨겁게 달군 (그래서 온도가 RISE하게 만든) 다섯 번의 순간.

이게 무슨 마법이람? 왜 빅뱅 멤버들의 콘서트(솔로가 됐든, 그룹, 아니면 YG 패밀리 투어가 됐든)는 다 이렇게 관객들을 열광시키는 걸까?

최근 앨범 Rise가 나오기까지, 그리고 자신의 첫 솔로 월드 투어를 하기까지 4년이라는 긴 시간을 기다렸던 태양이 어제 밤 싱가포르 엑스포의 무대에 올랐다. 빅뱅 콘서트에 비하면 적은 수의 관객이지만 태양은 능숙하게 관객을 휘어잡았다.

말레이시아에서 아침에(버스로. “요즘은 비행기 타는 게 싫어서”) 도착했지만, 피곤한 모습은 전혀 보이지 않았고 2시간 동안 진행된 공연 내내 성공적으로 에너지 넘치는 퍼포먼스를 보여 주었다.

태양은 유창한 영어로, “정말 이 순간을 [오랫동안] 기다려 왔어요. 녹음하면서도, 길을 걸을 때도, 밥을 먹으면서도, 샤워하고 화장실에서 볼일을 볼 때도, 이 날을 꿈꿨습니다. 제 앨범이 드디어 작년에 나왔고, 그래서 지금 여러분과 함께 이자리에 있습니다," 라고 말했다.

워낙 솔직한 성격에 말도 잘하는 태양은 왕관 모양의 빅뱅봉을 든 VIP(빅뱅 팬)들이 원하는 것을 모두 보여 주고 들려 주었다 – 상의 탈의한 모습, 섹시한 보컬, 세련된 댄스 무브, 그리고 태양 특유의 유머.

1) 상의 탈의 했을 때

조각같은 상체를 보여 주지 않으면 태양 콘서트라고 할 수가 없다.

콘서트가 시작하고 일곱 곡이나 할 때까지도 이 스웨거러가 옷을 벗을 기미를 보이지 않자 우리는 모두 조바심이 나기 시작했다. 팬들이 그의 클래식 히트곡 “웨딩 드레스”에 완전히 넋이 나갔을 때 쯤 태양은 마침내 민소매 셔츠를 벗어던졌고, 계속해서 상의 탈의한 상태에서 “이게 아닌데”를 부르는 동안 우리는 그의 복근을 마음껏 감상할 수 있었다.

하지만 물론 이 댄스 머신이 여기 근육 자랑만 하러 온 건 아니었다. 태양은 이후 여러 차례 옷을 갈아 입다가 마침내 “Body”의 앙코르를 할 때 한 번 더 유혹하듯 상의를 벗었다. 정말 완벽한 타이밍.

2) 팬에게 여자친구가 되어 달라고 얘기했을 때

태양은 “I Need a Girl”을 부르면서 여성 팬을 무대로 올라오게 해 비단결 같은 목소리로 멋진 댄스 무브와 함께 세레나데를 불러 주었다.

이 복터진 여자 관객을 백허그하고 양팔로 안아주는(물론 춤추느라 그랬지만) 것만으로도 관객들이 지붕이 떠나가라 소리를 질러대는데 그것도 모자라 그 여자 관객에게 오늘 밤 자신의 여자친구가 되어 달라고 얘기하기까지 했다. 오마이갓.

3) 추첨을 통해 자신의 물건을 기념으로 나눠주었을 때

태양이 자신의 물건을 받을 사람을 뽑기 위해 추첨을 시작하자 콘서트는 거의 팬미팅 같은 분위기로 바뀌었다. “여러분들을 위해 특별한 선물이 있는데 뭔지 모르겠네요," 태양이 장난스럽게 말했다.

스탠딩석에서 누가 “팬티!”라고 소리치자 태양은 쾌활하게 웃으며 아니라고 얘기하고 기타리스트에게 대신 속옷을 주는 게 어떠냐고 장난으로 얘기했다.

결국은 2명의 복받은 팬들이 각각 태양의 싸인이 담긴 운동화와 태양이 무대에서 썼던 캡을 선물로 받아갔다. 나머지 우리는 그저 태양이 줄 수 있는 최고의 선물 – 그의 음악을 받은 것으로 행복했다.

4) 태양의 절친 GD가 “특별 출연”했을 때

태양이 어떻다는 게 아니라 우리는 혹시 어제 콘서트에 빅뱅 멤버 중 누구라도 깜짝 게스트로 출연하지는 않을까 궁금했다.

그런 일은 없었지만, 그룹의 리더 GD가 이 두 절친들이 같이한 노래 “Stay With Me” 중간에 대형 스크린에 모습을 보였다. 이 두 사람의 우정을 응원하는 팬들에게는 아주 훌륭한 팬서비스였다.

5) 태양이 혼자서 빅뱅 노래를 멋지게 불렀을 때

지난 12월 홍콩에서 가졌던 xinmsn과의 인터뷰에서 약속했던 것 처럼, 태양은 이곳 VIP들에게 Rise에 들어 있는 전 트랙을 “라이브”로 불러 주었다. 2014년 가장 많이 커버됐던 곡들 중 하나(심지어 최근에 마이클 부블레도 그 대열에 동참했다)인 엄청난 히트곡 “눈, 코, 입”은 두 번 들을 수 있었다.

관객들을 즐겁게 해 준 “Good Boy”를 혼자 부르고 난 후, 태양은 GD 없이 부른 버전이 마음에 들었는지 조심스럽게 물었다. 우선 첫째, 중독성 강한 이 노래가 싫을리 없고, 둘째, 태양의 카리스마 넘치는 무대 위 존재감이 파트너가 빠진 빈자리를 가득 채우고도 남았다.

태양은 앙코르 곡으로 빅뱅의 히트곡 “Bad Boy”와 “Fantastic Baby”를 불렀고 분위기는 한층 더 뜨겁게 달아 올랐다. 5인조 그룹의 컴백과 새로운 월드 투어가 멀지 않은 만큼, 우리는 “아주 곧” 다시 싱가포르를 찾겠다는 태양의 약속을 믿어 보기로 한다.
