Taeyang Nominated for the KMAs' Best Song in the R&B/Soul Category!!!

So shocked to find out that YB was NOT nominated for any of the three main awards - Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Musician of the Year!!! How could this be???

Well, (as always) I overreacted a bit as a fan should do (I am not saying that you are not a fan if you don't overreact - just trying to rationalize my irrational behavior haha). Having recovered (slightly) from the initial shock, I quickly went to vote. Sadly, you can vote only once, so, YB, you have my one vote!

  1. Finally got on the official website: Songs nominated for R&B SOTY: Crush "Hug", Zion T 양화대교’, Jay Park 올라타’, 알샤인 ‘Start In you’ and YB for ENL.

Zion T's song is nominated for overall SOTY so its pretty clear who will win for R&B haha. But this is one award where its definitely an honor to be nominated, so I'm pretty satisfied.

  2. idk i'd be really disappointed if they don't give it to YB - since they're being so stingy with nominations for YB, they should make it up to him by giving it to him haha. i know i'm being terribly childish but that's how i feel right now haha.

  3. The candidates for the overall awards (the Daesangs?) are picked from the winners of the genre awards so I can see why he wasn't picked. TBH, most of RISE was a tough call in the R&B category since the other songs were more representative of the genre and were a better pick for that category. RISE doesn't really work as a genre album tbh, and there were stronger albums in the Pop category.

I wonder if ENL would have fared better if submitted as a Pop song... just a thought.

  4. well you're right of course - ENL being a tough call in the R&B category. but i don't think the nominees for the overall awards are picked from the winners of the genre awards - i mean, we don't know who the genre award winners are yet, right? i think it's KMA's way of differentiating itself from other popular awards. they're saying, unlike the other glitzy awards, we are more about the quality, and sorry, TY, you're way too popular to be nominated here haha

  5. Pretty sure their Daesang nominees already tells us who will win in the genre awards since they picked from all categories except Hiphop (wonder if they felt that it was a weak year for that genre...) It would be pretty weird to get picked for overall excellence but not for your category so it makes sense. (Though perhaps they should have kept back the Daesang nominees till the actual event to draw out the suspense haha)

Actually they've given awards to popular artists before too (like IU's 'Good Day' was overall SOTY a few years back. And idol groups like fx and 2ne1 have won category awards too. GD won for Hiphop song last year too. ) I think their selections have been pretty democratic over the past few years so I'm pretty glad they can honestly say they are only looking at quality without a bias either way for popularity. It's such a validation that YB has gotten nominations for each of his 3 solos (and won for HOT and LOAM) when the field gets more crowded each year, and at such a young age. So proud that he's so well regarded within the industry.
